973-975 Grove St, Alamo Square


2,646 square foot Queen Anne Victorian built in 1886 at a cost of $5,000. Designed by architects Samuel and Joseph Newsom. The house stood alone for 5 years at the end of Grove St, along with the Sutro Estate which occupied a half block on Hayes from Fillmore to Steiner Street.

In 1924, the home was subdivided into two units. Between 1937 and 1970, the home sold 5 times. From 1970 to 1978 it was the home of the French American Bilingual School. From 1978 to 1999 it was home to the Synergy School. In 1999 it became a single family home again.

In 1978 the house sold for $230K. Last sold for $925K in 1999.
