This photogenic beauty whose construction dates to 1891, according to its water connection documents is nestled amongst one of two rows of Cranston and Keenan Queen Anne tower houses that face each other along the 700 block of Broderick.

The exterior is graced with a delicate turret, rounded walls flanking the gable window, fish-scale shingling facing the upper floors and tower, and a full-faced flamboyantly carved sunburst at the peak. Foliate corner panels enliven the front porch entry, whose arch is echoed in the lovely curved balcony and balustrade above it. This is supported by a fan-shaped structure reminiscent of the Gothic Revival style

Yesterday I mentioned that the house next door, No. 711, was missing it's top in the 1976 PHOTO. But is it really missing? Could it be that the turret and embellished gable end (attic) were not original to No. 711? The mystery deepens!

A Permit search revealed the following (2011): 1. SEISMIC RETROIFT 2. REMODEL (E) TWO FLOORS. 3. ADD AN ATTIC, TURRET & ROOF DECK AT ROOF. 4. KITCHEN REMODEL. 5. NEW MASTER BATH & REMODEL (E) BATH. 6. FIRE SPRINKERLS.

Although I think that the original house looks odd AND does look as though it's missing its top, I believe the mystery is pretty much solved. No? Comment HERE
